Paperback - 304 pages (May 2000)
Alyson Pubns; ISBN: 1555835244

"Gay Autobiography/Biography; At only 25 years of age, Eric Anderson was near the top of his sport, coaching the cadre of distance runners at Huntington Beach High School in conservative Orange County, Calif. Victory on the track gained Anderson high respect as a coach, but he was hiding the truth from his colleagues and his team: Eric Anderson was gay. Then he came out. His team was quickly labeled "the fag team" as the respect Anderson had worked for gave way to homophobia, and his runners were taunted, threatened, and even physically assaulted. Yet through it all, they continued to run, to win, and to support their coach. As Anderson battled for his job and to keep his team running, his athletes, these young trailblazers, stuck by their coach and fought for a cause they were not born into. Trailblazing is the inspiring story of a coach and his team working together for glory against incredible odds and will leave you cheering."

Gad Beck, et al - An Underground Life: Memoirs of a Gay Jew in Nazi Berlin (Living Out: Gay and Lesbian Autobiographies) - Gay Non-Fiction Books All Books by Gad Beck, Frank Heibert, Allison Brown - Author of : An Underground Life: Memoirs of a Gay Jew in Nazi Berlin (Living Out: Gay and Lesbian Autobiographies)

"Gay Autobiography/Biography; That a Jew living in Nazi Berlin survived the Holocaust at all is surprising. That he was a homosexual and a teenage leader in the resistance and yet survived is amazing. But that he endured the ongoing horror with an open heart, with love and without vitriol, and has written about it so beautifully is truly miraculous. This is Gad Beck's story."

Kevin Bentley - Wild Animals I Have Known : Polk Street Diaries and After - Gay Non-Fiction Books All Books by Kevin Bentley - Author of : Wild Animals I Have Known : Polk Street Diaries and After
Paperback - 270 pages (April 2002)
Publishers Group West; ISBN: 1931160082

"Gay Autobiography/Biography; Kevin Bentley faithfully kept a frank, literate diary of his experiences as a young gay man living in San Francisco in the 1970s. In passages that are arousing, thoughtful, and funny, he details a scene of unrivaled sexual hedonism. First and foremost an erotic record, Wild Animals I Have Known is also the diary of a bookish, terrified, exuberantly promiscuous, and laughably romantic gay manís exploits during the heyday of San Franciscoís gay bohemia."

Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell - Just Married: Gay Marriage and the Expansion of Human Rights - Gay Non-Fiction All Books by Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell - Authors of : Just Married: Gay Marriage and the Expansion of Human Rights
Hardcover: 272 pages (June 1, 2002)
Univ of Wisconsin Pr; ISBN: 0299178803; 1 edition

~*~ Featured Book Review ~*~
"A personal account of a gay couple's struggle to be married in the eyes of both church and state Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell made international news headlines and human rights history in January 2001 when they became the first gay couple anywhere in the world to be issued a government marriage certificate. The marriage would not become fully legal, however, until the Ontario provincial government registered the marriage, and it refused to do so. Bourassa, Varnell, and their church have brought a lawsuit asking for legal registration, but the case is still in the courts. Just Married is an account by Bourassa and Varnell of how their church, the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, decided to test the Canadian marriage laws, and how they and a lesbian couple agreed to be the ones to make the attempt. Under the Ontario Marriage Act, any adult couple can be granted a marriage license if a church, following ancient tradition, reads the marriage banns on the three Sundays prior to the wedding. Joe and Kevin had long wished to be legally married in their church. They expected controversy, but little expected the massive scale of the international coverage that occurred, as reporting on their intentions and their wedding of them shot across the Internet and their photographs appeared in newspapers not only across North America but also in Europe, Asia, and South America.
Despite the legal and political wrangling, the opposition and support they received, the disputes among religious denominations and organizations, and the glare of the media lights, this remains a story of two people who chose to make a life together and sought the support of both church and state for their marriage. They believe they have taken part in an incredible eventóone that will change the world, not just for Canadians, but for citizens, families, and communities everywhere."

Justin Chin - Burden of Ashes - Gay Non-Fiction Books All Books by Justin Chin - Author of : Burden of Ashes
Paperback: 240 pages (May 2002)
Alyson Pubns; ISBN: 1555836429

"Gay Autobiography/Biography; Floating somewhere between fiction and memoir, acclaimed poet, performer, and writer Justin Chin has created a literary dreamscape in which the landscapes of childhood, homelands, bodies, lovers, and desires succumb to whimsy, revision, and denial. Don't even bother trying to figure out what is real and what is imagined-you would only frustrate yourself and miss the best parts. Allow yourself the luxury of floating here, wrapped in language and memory, in a place where killing snakes, stern discipline, family pets, and childhood vacations share equal time with unrequited love, the mournful specters of ex-lovers, imagined passions, and the enigmatic power of a good kiss. With wild grace, Chin bounds through actual events and imagined outcomes, reconciling what is lost, taken away, denied, outgrown, left behind, survived, remembered, and reclaimed."

Ronald L. Donaghe - My Year of Living Heterosexually: And Other Adventures in Hell - Gay Non-Fiction Books All Books by Ronald L. Donaghe - Author of : My Year of Living Heterosexually: And Other Adventures in Hell
Paperback - 228 pages Vol 1 (June 27, 2000)
ToExcel; ISBN: 0595098967

"Gay Autobiography/Biography; Compared to the dangerous, rage-filled military of today, where even the hint of homosexuality will get one badly beaten or savagely murdered, mine were almost halcyon days as an openly gay Airman First Class, where my boyfriend and I could be together and everybody in my flight knew about us. They could have been halcyon days, that is, if it hadn't been for the madness of the war and the schizophrenia of the American public over that Southeast Asian conflict; and if it hadn't been for the wife I left back home and the child we had. What should have been idyllic days of my youth spent proudly serving my country as a gay soldier were misspent, instead, trying to make sense of what had gone so terribly wrong, so fast: one day I was a gay college student, the next a self-loathing homosexual trapped in a straight marriage, and the next a GI in the military machine during Vietnam. Come to think of it, I wouldn't change a thing."
